Lightscoop vs. Other Gadgets
The Lightscoop® is superior to gadgets called diffusers because putting a diffuser in front of a flash does NOT change the unnatural direction of the light.
Do you know of natural light sources that come aligned with your forehead? Ah, yes, headband lamps, miners' lamps, and dentists' spotlights.
Diffusers can soften some "hot spots" and shadows, but because the light from the flash still comes straight on, they cannot spread the light over a larger surface to completely eliminate hot spots and shadows.
The Lightscoop shot above, which bounced the light off a wall, is as soft and directional as window light. A ceiling bounce re-creates typical overhead indoor lighting. Bounced light IS diffused.
